1. Check the Weather Before You Go

The weather in Ireland can be unpredictable, so it’s always a good idea to check the forecast before you start packing. Generally, layers are your best friend. Bring a light waterproof jacket, as you never know when the rain will come knocking.

2. Embrace the Layers

Given the varying temperatures and weather conditions, layering is key to staying comfortable. Think t-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, and sweaters that you can easily add or remove as the day goes on.

3. Pack Comfortable Walking Shoes

With its stunning landscapes and charming cities, you'll find yourself doing a lot of walking in Ireland. Make sure to pack a sturdy pair of comfortable walking shoes. Your feet will thank you!

4. Include a Travel Adapter

Don’t forget to bring a travel adapter for your devices. Ireland uses a three-point plug system, and having a reliable adapter will ensure you can keep your tech charged throughout your trip.

5. Light Scarf and Hat

A light scarf can be a versatile accessory, keeping you warm as well as being a fashion staple. A hat can also come in handy, especially on windy days! Although temperatures rarely dip below freezing, from October to April, a hat and scarf are good to have!

6. Don’t Overpack

While it’s tempting to pack everything but the kitchen sink, try to keep it simple. Packing light allows for extra room for souvenirs and makes traveling easier overall.

7. Pack for the Pubs

Ireland’s nightlife is vibrant, so don’t forget to pack some smart casual attire for the evenings out. Most bars will not have a strict dress code, but it’s nice to dress up a bit!

8. Umbrella! Yes or No?

Even if the forecast looks sunny, an umbrella can be a lifesaver—especially in Ireland! Pack a compact one that fits easily in your bag but avoid using it on a windy day. Our best advice is to have a good light jacket.

9. Make Use of Ziplock Bags

Ziplock bags can serve multiple purposes, from keeping your toiletries organized to packing snacks for those long sightseeing days. They are inexpensive and incredibly useful!

10. Searching for Snacks

When packing your bags, consider bringing some non-perishable snacks. Road trips and hikes will be much more enjoyable with a snack stash at your fingertips!

11. Know the Dining Hours

Time your meals right! In Ireland, dinner is generally served between 6 pm and 9 pm. Bars usually start serving at 5 pm, so plan accordingly!

12. Don’t Forget Your Toiletries

Make a list of all your essential toiletries and check them off as you pack. It’s easy to forget your favorite shampoo or moisturizer while packing in a rush.

13. Bring a Book or Two

Traveling can possibly mean some downtime. Bring a good book or download some of your favorites ahead of time for those moments of relaxation. One of our favourite things to do no matter where you are is to grab a coffee in the local town or village café or pub, strike up a conversation with the staff and watch the world go by as you peer over the covers of a good book or the local paper!

14. Small Backpack or Daypack

A small, lightweight backpack is perfect for day trips. It allows you to carry essentials without lugging around a large suitcase.

15. Food allergies? Don't panic

Many places list the allergies in any given dish and don't be afraid to ask if you have any special dietary requirements. Ireland is quite good and knowledgeable at knowing its ingredients and as most places are online, one can easily view their menues in advance....in this instance, google is your friend.

16. Embrace the Culture

Finally, pack a sense of adventure! Embrace the local culture by trying new foods, learning a few Irish phrases, and soaking up the rich history!
